7. Persistence is key.

No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy.

Never, never give up.

While you’re working on completing your actions and achieving your goals, life goes on around you. Sometimes, life will throw unexpected things in your way. Sometimes those will be obstacles, things that make your task harder. Sometimes they’ll be opportunities, things that make your task easier or even short-cut some of it. Your Coach will help you to be on the lookout for the unexpected, and to respond to it when it trips you up. You may have to modify your plan, or even rewrite it if what happens is significant enough.

Here's clue number seven: persistence is the key to success. A seemingly devastating obstacle that stops you in your tracks doesn’t mean you have to abandon your goal. It doesn’t mean you can’t achieve it at all; quite likely it means you can’t achieve it in the way you had planned, so you’ll need to find another way. Or it may mean you can’t achieve that goal yet, in which case you’ll need to rearrange your priorities and work around it until you can get it done.

Another thing that can destabilise you is actually achieving a goal. If you’ve been working hard to nail that one goal, you might have been ignoring the other parts of your plan. Don’t lose sight of the big picture. Your Coach will help you to look ahead, reviewing and adjusting your plan as you work through it, dodging and weaving around obstacles and celebrating your successes along the way.
